The Gold Circuit
Description
The Gold Cycle, from the late 17th century to the late 18th century, was one of the richest periods of the Brazilian history. In the regions of the gold, many cities were raised. Life evolved, making possible the appearance of new professions and the development of commercial, social and working activities. Theatres, schools, churches and public organisms spread around the mines. Ouro Preto, Sabará, Mariana, Tiradentes and São João Del Rei were some of the wealthiest cities, naturally born rich, which started their history at that time. The metal also enriched families, whose sons were sent abroad to study in Europe. Coming back, they spread the ideas of the Enlightenment and the Arcadianism, in opposition to the fancy Baroque, the main artistic expression at the time. Natural successor of the Renaissance, the Baroque demonstrates deep interest over the Classic Antiquity, represented by its imponent churches, chapels, statues and statuettes of saints and sepulchral monuments.
