The caves of Minas Gerais are true natural monuments: works of art of stunning beauty sculpted by the time. The karst region of Minas Gerais (consisted of limestone rocks) is worldly known by its scientific, cultural and geomorphological richness and also by the work of Danish naturalist Peter W. Lund (1801-1880), the one who made Minas Gerais an international reference in the fields of archeology, paleontology and speleology. The route starts at the PUC Minas (Catholic University) Museum of Natural Science and goes up to the Maquiné Cave, in Cordisburgo, central region of the state, along 120km. Besides the museum and the Maquiné Cave, the route also contemplates the Rei do Mato Cave, in Sete Lagoas and the Lapinha Cave, located in the Sumidouro Park, in Lagoa Santa, as well as the Peter Lund Museum.
